History of our company - pre-war times
The origins of our plant date back to 1920, at which time, shortly after the end of World War I, Bydgoska Fabryka Wyrobów Polskiej Spółki Akcyjna „KAUCZUK” with headquarters in Warsaw was established. Its founders were four
Polish entrepreneurs: Henryk Gruszkowski, Józef Karpowicz, Eugeniusz Krasuski and Karol Szejnach.
After the Company's Articles of Incorporation were approved on November 16, 1920, and it was finally constituted on February 24, 1921, vigorous efforts were made to acquire suitable land and begin construction of the factory. It began in 1921 on the site of a disused sawmill purchased from the Joint Stock Company „Loyd Bydgoski”, and was completed in 1923.The site, located between the Brda River and Torunska Street, near the Łęgnowo railroad station, was perfectly suited for the construction of such an industrial plant. The Bydgoszcz factory in 1923 was a real economic boon.
Eight halls were built, with machine tools for washing, stretching, rolling, pressing and forming of all kinds of Rubber Sheets and rubber-asbestos and rubberizing of various types of color and white cotton, wool, silk and other fabrics. The machines and equipment were built according to the then latest word of technology by Henry Berry et Co., Ltd, Leeds, England. Initially, insulating tapes for electrical conductors were produced. This was followed by a variety of Rubber Sheeting and Rubber Sheeting, rubberized fabrics, flaps, buffers, rings, frames, etc. products for industry. It is worth knowing that the plant employed 294 workers in 1923, and after five years their number rose to 450. In the period before World War II, the Joint Stock Company „KAUCZUK” had better and worse moments. It survived the economic crisis of the early 1930s and in 1937, after a three-year shutdown, it resumed production. In a short period of time it expanded and introduced new assortments such as: Rubber Flooring floorboards and shoe doormats, and the production of the hose department, built in 1928, was expanded. The company was gaining wider and wider markets thanks to the high quality of its products. In addition, it won most tenders and received state orders. The factory began to prosper shortly before the outbreak of World War II. KAUCZUK was one of the five largest chemical industry companies in Poland and the most important in the city.
